Slay Velli started off music professionally when he caught the attention of Veteran Disc Jockey DJ Jimmy Jatt who invited the rapper to his popular hiphop TV series Jimmy’s JumpOff in 2012 while he was a final year student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure. From his first official release in 2012 till his recent body of work titled Product Of Surulere he has since grown in skill and delivery of his music reaching music fans across the country and Africa at large. He signed a record deal in 2015 with Castro Music Empire which put him on mainstream scene getting multiple radio spins for his debut single ‘Agbada’ under the label but he soon left the label in 2016 under mutual agreement from both parties.
“Being able to make music from the heart and get it to the world to listen to it is my own way is making my mark in this world, I feel like I was born to do music” …Slay said on his interview on Rhythm 93.7 FM in April.
He described his music as dynamic and versatile which is visible in his singing and rapping abilities. Slay Velli has worked with a few notables names in the industry like DJ Jimmy Jatt, Seriki, Pepenazi, BaseOne to mention a few.
